We all have a few negative storylines that creep into our minds, but do you know how to stop them before you head down the rabbit hole?
Here are three steps you can take to challenge those negative thoughts in the moment:
BE AWARE. The first step is to raise your awareness. It’s important to be in a state that allows you to identify the thought. Once you’re conscious of the storyline in your mind, you can make a concerted effort to address the unwanted thought.
HIT THE PAUSE BUTTON. Once you are aware, you can push pause before you react. Often my clients choose words or phrases that give them a chance to reset. Simple phrases such as “let it go” or “reframe” help you shift gears in order to choose a new thought.
CHANGE THE CHANNEL. This is where you get to reframe your thought. At this moment, you can choose a more empowering and phrase, scenario or positive image that refocuses your mind on a more productive state of being.
Empowering yourself with tools and then actually putting them to work is how you begin to create new habits and patterns that work for you.
All it takes is the desire to make it so and off you go!
